High school baseball and softball Splitsville: Belfast, Oceanside, Camden Hills, Searsport base winners

 Lions/Mariners split, as do Vikings/Golden Bucks and Windjammers/Eagles

Six Midcoast high school diamond teams were in action on Wednesday, May 12, as area schools earned splits on the afternoon.

Oceanside and Belfast split as Lion baseball posted a 3-1 win and Mariner softball a 9-4 victory, while Camden Hills split with Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, as baseball earned a 5-0 win and softball took a 2-0 loss.

Searsport also split with Bucksport, as softball swung to a 4-2 victory and baseball suffered a 4-3 loss.

.....Baseball

Belfast 3, Oceanside 1

At Belfast May 12, all four runs were scored in the sixth inning, though it was the Lions who prowled to the two-run victory.

Leading Belfast at the plate were Tanner Veilleux (run), Tommy Walker (hit), Jason Bartlett (hit, run), Chris Kelley (home run 3 RBIs) and Keegan McGowan (hit).

For Oceanside, Nathan Coombs (2 singles), Austin Chilles (run) and Connor Calderwood (hit) paced the offense.

Chilles went the distance on the hill for the Mariners, as he allowed four hits and two walks, with nine strikeouts. Kelley and Walker split time on the hill for the Lions, as the to allowed three hits and five walks, with nine strikeouts.

Chilles came in to score on an error in the top of the sixth to put the visiting Mariners up 1-0, but Kelley blasted a three-run home run after Bartlett and Veilleux reached on walks to, ultimately, give the hosts the win.....



.....Softball

Oceanside 9, Belfast 4

At Belfast May 12, the Mariners generated consistent offense throughout the seven-inning affair and bested the host Lions. Oceanside scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth, while Belfast scored twice in the fourth and seventh frames.

Leading the Mariner offense were Maddie Ripley (2 hits, 3 RBIs), Jessica Watkinson (2 hits, run), Grace Woodman (hit), Grace Pratt (3 hits, 3 runs, RBI), Adrianna Whitamore (2 hits, 2 RBIs, run), Lexi Knowlton (2 hits, 3 runs), Madison Benner (run) and Hannah Robinson (hit, RBI).

For the Lions, Sarah Fuller (hit, RBI), Mia Winslow (hit), Hayle Withee (hit, RBI), Anna Metcalf (hit, run), Lindsey Goughnour (hit, run), Katie Simmons (hit, run) and Maddie Chiarmonte (run) paced the offense.

Whitamore pitched for the visitors, as she allowed six hits and eight walks, with three strikeouts. Lexi Hopkins pitched for the hosts, as she allowed 13 hits and three walks, with six strikeouts......
