Student-athletes stay busy with slew of games during week, weekend play
It has been busy days on the diamonds for Midcoast high school baseball and softball teams Monday through Saturday, May 3-8, with Camden Hills of Rockport, Oceanside of Rockland, Belfast, Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Mount View of Thorndike, Vinalhaven and Searsport in action....

...On May 8 the action continued as Mariner baseball earned a 4-2 win against Lincoln Academy, while softball fell 5-4 to the Eagles. The Lions did the same with Bucksport as baseball swung to a 7-5 win, while softball was dealt a 17-5 loss...

Belfast 7, Bucksport 5
At Belfast May 8, the Lions corralled the Golden Bucks and prowled to a two-run win. Belfast scored four in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth, while Bucksport scored three in the first and one in the fifth and sixth frames.
Leading the Lions at the plate were Tanner Veilleux (2 hits, 3 RBIs), Jason Bartlett (2 hits, run), Chris Kelley (2 hits, run, RBI), Ethan Porter (run), Keegan McGowan (hit, run), Chase Sanders (2 hits, run, RBI), Eamon Goscinski (run) and Zepherin Leppanen (hit, run, RBI).
For the Golden Bucks, Logan Stanley (3 hits, 2 runs, RBI), Gavyn Holyoke (run), Ty Giberson (hit, run), Owen Gaudreau (hit, 3 RBIs), Cameron Rich (3 hits, RBI) and Brandon Elden (hit, run) paced the offense.
Bartlett and Walker pitched for Belfast, allowing a combined nine hits and two walks, with five strikeouts. Gaudreau and Holyoke pitched for Bucksport, allowing 10 hits and one walk, with one strikeout.

At Belfast May 7, the Lions benefited from a four-run sixth inning and walked off with a win over the Eagles. Belfast also scored three in the third and four in the fifth, while Lincoln Academy scored its lone run in the fifth.

At Belfast May 3, the Windjammers plated the lone run in extra innings and sailed past the Lions.
Logan Putansu pitched for Camden Hills as he went 7 2/3 innings, and allowed 11 hits and three walks, with five strikeouts. Liam O’Neal went the final 1/3 of an inning, as he yielded one walk.
Jason Bartlett went six innings for Belfast, as he allowed two hits and two walks, with nine strikeouts. Chris Kelley walked one in one inning of relief, while Tommy Walker allowed one hit and one walk, with one strikeout in one inning of relief.
Leading the Windjammers at the plate were Sam Moody (2 hits), Lucas Moody (hit), Matt Kremin (RBI) and Cam Brown (run).

Hunter Bell drew a walk to start the top of the eighth for Camden Hills, but was wiped out at second base when Brown reached on a fielder’s choice. Brown stole second base, moved to third on a single by Lucas Moody and scored on a balk issued by Walker....

At Belfast May 8, the Golden Bucks jumped on the Lions early and rode that momentum to a lopsided win. Bucksport plated nine runs in the first inning and added two in the third, one in the sixth and five in the seventh, while Belfast scored one in the third and two in the fifth and seventh frames.
Leading the Lion offense was Sarah Fuller (hit, 3 runs), Mia Winslow (2 hits, run), Hayle Withee (hit, run, 4 RBIs), Lexi Hopkins (hit), Anna Metcalf (2 hits) and Katie Simmons (hit).

At Belfast May 7, the Eagles pulled away from the Lions with a big seventh inning and soared to the win. Belfast scored two in the first and third innings and one in the fifth, while Lincoln Academy scored two in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings, one in the sixth and six in the seventh.
