Windjammers, Mariners, Lions, Panthers, Mustangs honored by KVAC

The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference unveiled its all-conference and all-academic selections for 2020-21 winter sports, as Knox, Waldo and Lincoln county student-athletes are spotlighted for efforts in the realm of athletics and classroom.

The KVAC singled out dozens throughout a myriad of sports, including cheer, skiing, basketball, swimming, indoor track and ice hockey. Wrestling, along with indoor track, was not held this year due to the pandemic.

However, with this winter significantly different than others due to COVID-19, some sports did not chose all-conference players, only all-academic.

“That is a result of the changes in scheduling brought on by the pandemic," said Doran Strout, league secretary/treasurer.

“Some of the schools played only a couple KVAC schools while filling their schedules with cross-conference opponents,” he said. “In some cases, coaches named their own regional all stars in the umbrellas of coaches associations. The athletic administrators of the KVAC feel it vital, now more than ever, to recognize our student-athletes for their accomplishments.”

Student-athletes from Belfast Area High School, Camden Hills Regional High School of Rockport, Oceanside High School of Rockland, Medomak Valley High School of Waldoboro and Mount View High School of Thorndike were among the athletes recognized.
